How To Remix

Intro :

I had to watch a tutorial sent by tutor “how to remix a track with adobe audition ” and we had to try to remix anything by ourselves after that guide .

Working in Progress:

Final review

After I tried that method I managed to see that there is not too much difference between the two files;

The initial file has a length of 6:08 [which is not minutes, etc]

The second file has a length of 6:14

In my opinion that doesn’t make any difference .

That doesn’t make too much difference ;
Note: don’t use the program again ;

Max MSP tutorial

Max MSP is a piece of software which can be really helpful to create you’re own audio . In the example below it was created a private network between a MacBook and an Iphone to be able to create with the x,y,z positions of the phone noises/music .

Screen Shot 2019-02-04 at 09.23.02Explaining the code :

The code is quite simple , we’ve mapped the x,y,z position of the phone [these are known by accelerometer of the phone<that small thing inside of you’re phone who knows if the phone is in you’re pocket/at you’re ear/etc>] .

The software used to use the phone[as a transmitter] and laptop [as a receiver] was: for phone Touch OSC and for laptop was MaxMSP.

We sent x to a loop where is not gonna affect any of the characteristics of the sound we’re gonna create. Y is gonna be mapped between -2 and 2 on the piano keys . Z is just printed out [which is not gonna affect the sound as well] .

Sound effect task

Intro:

Hello everybody , today I was assigned to create a sound effect by myself with Adobe Audition or Sonic Pi;

The sound I wanna create is gonna be a rocket whistle from a rocket launcher and is gonna be something similar with THIS SOUND.

The sound effect should be a bit different , it needs to be a sound with a high amplitude , about 2 seconds long before it ends and a explosion about 1 second long .

Working in Progress :

This is an audio experimentation with an contact microphone and with a shotgun microphone to create some basic noise which I could modify later and create the noises I need … [ my tutor voice is gonna be there as well , sorry for that]

Result:

After I overused my brain to do something I was never into [creating music/sounds] I managed to get to a final version of the rocket noise I was talking about at the beginning of the video .

Rocket Noise

Evaluation :

1st opinion : – Sounds like a steady power buildup .

2nd opinion : sounds like an air wave / or like when u play with the audio equipment and increase and decrease the volume .

3rd opinion : sounds like red arrow planes .

Is not exactly what I was expecting to hear but I am happy to hear that . Maybe with some visual graphics the reviews will be more like a whistle of a rocket .

Unit 5 – Audio Terminology

Amplitude –

Amplitude is the size of the vibration, and this determines how loud the sound is.  We have already seen that larger vibrations make a louder sound.

Frequency and Pitch

Frequency and pitch describe the same thing, but from different viewpoints.  While frequency measures the cycle rate of the physical waveform, pitch is how high or low it sounds when you hear it.

This is directly related to frequency: the higher the frequency of a waveform, the higher the pitch of the sound you hear.

Think of the sound of a car or motorcycle engine accelerating.  As the engines turns faster (at a higher frequency) the engine makes a higher-pitched sound.

Human ears can only hear sounds within a certain range of frequencies.  As people grow older, their hearing range reduces.  A young person can usually hear sounds in the range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.

Chords

In music, a chord is three or more notes that combine harmoniously. You can play chords on a piano or guitar, but not on an instrument that plays one note at a time, like a trumpet.

Beat

Beat is defined as a rhythmic movement, or is the speed at which a piece of musicis played. An example of beat is the beating of a heart. An example of beat is the rhythmic noise played on a drum. An example of a beat is the tempo at which a conductor leads an orchestra to play.

Tempo

If no one is dancing at your party, you probably want to put on some music with a faster tempo — meaning a faster speed.

Panning

Panning is the distribution of a sound signal (either monaural or stereophonic pairs) into a new stereo or multi-channel sound field determined by a pan control setting. A typical physical recording console has a pan control for each incoming source channel.

Attack, Sustain, Release

Attack is the timing it takes to the note to hit the higher intensity ;

Sustain is the timing the note is held to the highest intensity ;

Release is the timing it takes to get back to the 0 value;

Harmonics

Harmonics in music  are notes which are produced in a special way. They are notes which are produced as part of the “harmonic series”.

Timbre

In music, timbre is the perceived sound quality of a musical note, sound or tone. Timbre distinguishes different types of sound production, such as choir voices and musical instruments, such as string instruments, wind instruments, and percussion instruments.

Here is my creation

New Zealand game scene

Intro

I decided to research about  The geothermal mud pools, geysers and mineral pools found in Roturua for today’s lesson .

Roturua is situated in New Zealand and it has 5 geothermal wonders in the region of Taupo and Rotorua .

1. Wai-O-Tapu

The Wai-O-Tapu thermal wonderland is located near Rotorua. This geothermal playground features a number of exhilarating mudpools, geysers and sulphur pools. View the stunning Champagne Pool (main image), or marvel at the force of the Lady Knox Geyser.

2. Hell’s Gate (Tikitere)

The ominous sounding Hell’s Gate is actually Rotorua’s most famous thermal attraction. This sacred Maori site boasts 50 acres of mud pools, geysers, hot springs and the Southern Hemisphere’s largest hot-water waterfall.

3. Craters of the Moon

The Craters of the Moon is a geothermal walk located just north of Taupo. The walk features mud craters, steaming with geothermal activity.

4. Whakarewarewa

One of Rotorua’s most popular geothermal sites, Whakarewarewa boasts some excellent geothermal activity and a traditional Maori village. With approximately 500 hot springs, the terraces and pools are known as a Living Thermal Village.

5. Waimangu

Meaning “black water” in Maori, Waimangu is a thermal area that was created after the devastating 1886 Tarawera Eruption – the same eruption that buried the then ‘8th Wonder of the World’, the Pink and White Terraces. Waimangu is located about 20 minutes South of Rotorua.

Design and Development:

After everything I research about New Zealand I’ve decided to create an Particle system which is gonna look like one of those waterfalls from New Zealand and make them look real in a new scene in Unity .

Answers:

  1. World of Warcraft(WoW) was made by Blizzard Entertainment .
  2. WoW was released in November 2004.
  3. The game engine which was used to create this game is called WoWEdit.
  4. WoW doesn’t have a protagonist as the whole game is twisting around the story which was continued from Warcraft series. There was at the beginning 2 factions [Aliance and Horde] which each faction has 4 races Alliance has : Human , Dwarf , Night Elf and Gnome ; Horde has Orc,Undead,Tauren and Troll  .
  5. The author made all characters to be adults , and you can pick different customization for each race individually .
  6. The environment was described as “breathtaking”. Players found it difficult to become lost, and each area in the game world had a distinct look that blended from one to the next.Critics described the environment as “a careful blend of cartoon, fantasy art, and realism”.
  7. The context of the game is a continuation of the Warcraft series .
  8. The soundtrack for World of Warcraft was composed and arranged by Jason Hayes, Tracy W. Bush, Derek Duke, and Glenn Stafford and conducted by Eimear Noone .It was released on November 23, 2004, together with the collector’s edition of the game. It is sold separately on one CD in the MP3 format. On January 12, 2011, Alfred Publishing produced an officially licensed sheet music series for vocalists, pianists, strings, and other instruments, World of Warcraft Sheet Music Anthology in solo and accompaniment formats with CD. These works include four pages of collectable artwork and vary by number of songs included. In 2018, a remix of the song from the game, “Hymn of the Firstborn Son”, was nominated for “Best Game Music Cover/Remix” at the 16th Annual Game Audio Network Guild Awards.
  9. In WoW, we can pretty much sit down and have a chat no matter where we are in the world. Warcraft characters have at least some semblance leisure time, of a life outside of killing monsters, which roleplayers try to use to great effect. In fact, I only hope that this sort of thing gets expanded in the future, so that WoW characters have more and more ways to interact with each other in coming expansions. The addition of a new “/cower” emote in Wrath of the Lich King was an excellent addition, which roleplayers have enjoyed using a great deal. The key thing I hope Blizzard will remember is that emotes and animations are additional forms of communication — not cool just things you can make your character do. Emotes and animations which are bent towards communication and interaction will always be more successful than those which just look neat. Often idle animations get in the way more than they help, for example (such as the night elf female bouncy animation — there really needs to be a way to turn stuff like that off!)
  10. Living inside WoW seemed preferable to the drudgery of everyday life. Especially when that life involved fighting with his wife about how much time he spent on the computer. The game makes u feel GodLike , and most of the people find a refugee over there to escape from the real world which makes them to feel impotent . Because of the way the game is made , is made for different people , some of them like me , they like PVP [player vs player] so they will spent their time in game to beat other players , some others are keen into PVE [Player vs environment] where you just have to make instances, raids , nothing that make you even more stressed than you come inside of the game .

Objects Oriented Programming

1a

  • I’ve add in the line 5 and 6 the images which I’ll load them later
  • On first 3 lines I had to import minim library to make my job easier with audio files.
  • Line 11,12 I load the images .
  • In lines 13,14,15 I’ve loaded the audio files , and I made them play into the setup [to run just once when the program is running]
  • In the lines 24,33,38 I made the image to appear in the places I wanted to .

1

  1. Lines 1 to 6  I am loading the Minim library and I made some classes called player 1 to 4 .
  2. In the line 7 I add a array of images which I’ll use them later.
  3. Everything which start with a capital letter is gonna be a class .

Under Unit 5/6 / 7

Introduction + Tasks:

Chris gave us this video and he told us to modify the code as we wish to improve it , and he helped us with some ideas for the beginning :

  • Your Task is to modify the game, so there are 16 images (4 x 4) rather than 9.
  • To put text on top of the rectangles – For example, the text could say “GONE” or “DEAD” etc. Or maybe use a red X-Factor style cross instead.
To create a message at the end, saying who the survivor is.
  • Prevent the rectangles being re-drawn over the same place / location. Hint: You could use an Array List instead of an Array.
  • Make other changes, as you see fit.

Development :

I’ve created my own version of the processing random game on a 4×4 grid and I managed to add the minim library to play a sound when you press the mouse button.

Now I focused too much on the task to prevent the rectangle being re-drawn and I forgot to make some writing on top of the rectangles .

F51 Skate Park

Research:

The multi-storey sports park is seen as an investment for young people and will be located in the town centre, at the junction of Dover Road and Tontine Street. There is already much talk about this groundbreaking initiative which is understood to be the first of its kind in the world.

The park will provide locals and visitors with the opportunity to engage in a unique range of sports, including skateboarding, BMX, boxing, climbing and bouldering. Expert input has been provided by Maverick Industries, who are specialists in skate park design. Each floor will offer a different experience and have distinctive features suited to different skills and abilities.

Shepway Sports Trust will manage the site, which will also provide a new home for Folkestone Amateur Boxing Club. As well as several floors of sporting activity, there will be a cafe and a function space that can be hired for special events. Shepway Sports Trust is a not-for-profit sports charity, funded principally by The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust, that promotes high-quality competition, sporting and coaching opportunities. Its key aim is to connect schools, sports clubs within the district with the purpose of inspiring all generations to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

  • Here is the blueprints of the building :
  • 3012432_Short-section

Design:

  • I am thinking to make a processing sketch about Digital Graffiti like this

Mood Board.jpg

  • I would like to make something looking like a lightning pattern interactive on anything in gonna be reproduced on , maybe changing colour or changing position/rotating at a certain point , etc
  • I’ve been thinking to make one of the pillars some nice effect which could play continuously or which could be triggered :
  • Or maybe on the lights to be a interactive , which will make lightning pattern / water wave pattern shown on the playground

pillar.jpg

  • I would like to be pattern like these to be created by computerimages

Develop:

      • After few tries I managed to change my ideas to create a welcome message for the F51 Skate park and this is one of the first prototypes I developed. and I thought I can animate it a bit more with the lightning strike idea.
      • Second prototype was to animate some clouds to put on top of the first prototype , the second prototype looks like this.
      • Third prototype is a mix between the first two , and is a bit more interactive , you need to press “Q” to start the lightning strikes.

Final Version of the Code:

This is the final version of the code :

Document 3

Self Reflection :

  • I couldn’t make the lightning pattern because I had a struggle finding the ending point of the lightning strike on the canvas ,
  • It is interactive because for the lightning strikes to play on the screen you need to press the q/Q key ,
  • I couldn’t make the water waves because it needs more experience /research and my patience wasn’t exactly helping,
  • I got the idea of the fighting and skateboarding scene from the activities that will be available after the F51 Skate Park will be open to the public,
  • I couldn’t find animations for all the sports they are over there but I tried to add animations which will attract the public to come and at least have a look of what’s in .

Game Parameters

Idea description

The game will be a fantasy/action/fiction/shooter game where you can pick the character between few races, you re more than welcome to bring you’re own ideas to the character construction [ Demons,Angels,Humans,Orcs,Undeads,Reptilians, etc]. This is an example of the type of game I want to create  just different characters, textures, attacks, etc.

Down here you have some examples for inspiration for the idea of a character , I will need to see them in full and each individual part [legs/chest/head/wings,etc]

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The characters needs to be first created by certain sizes have bold lines and not too many details as the size might be decreased to an certain amount of pixels .The character will need like minimum 4 sprites for each action like : Idle , Running , Shooting[using magic skills] , Kicking , etc.

There will be bosses where everybody can be creative , the boss can be a bigger size , different animations, more details , etc .

Notes:

Please don’t make characters with too many parts because to animate them I have to add them bones and I will have to add them manually and for the prototype version of the game I need characters a bit more detailed than this :

And this will be an example how the animation of the character will work 😀
